Davao City (8 August) -- The 22nd Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival will have its grand launch today, August 8, 2007, Wednesday, at the Quezon Park, in front of the City Hall of Davao.

Touted as the country's "festival of festivals", the opening ceremonies will commence with a Thanksgiving Mass at San Pedro Cathedral at 4:30 PM. This will be followed by the Opening Rites ceremonies at the Quezon Park with the opening address to be delivered by Mr. Abdullah Aquino, co-chair of the Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2007.

A prologue, with the theme "Bahagharing Dabawenyo", will be preformed by the Kaliwat Theater Collective, together with representatives from the Tagabawa, Ubo-Manuvu, K'lagan, Sama, Tausug, Maguindanao, Maranao and Ata tribes.

An ecumenical prayer of thanksgiving from Aleem Mohammad Yusof Pasigan representing the Muslim community, Reverend Pastor Apollo Quiboloy from the Christian community and Renante Talabon from the indigenous peoples will follow.

City Administrator Wendel Avisado, co-chair of the Kadayawan sa Dabaw 2007 representing the Government Sector, will deliver the welcome remarks while City Councilors Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, Amilbangsa Manding, Edgar Ibuyan, Carlo Bello, Rachel Zozobrado, Samuel Bangoy, Louie John Bonguyan, Susan Isabel Reta and Tomas Monteverde will take turns in expounding this year's theme through poetic verses.

The welcome address and the official proclamation of the festival's opening will be delivered by City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte. Mayor Duterte will also lead the sounding of the agong and the lighting of fire together with Vice-Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, Mr. Abdullah Aquino, and Atty. Wendel Avisado.

The ceremonies will conclude with a community revelry to be participated by the participants and the audience.

This official events of this year's Kadayawan sa Dabaw include the Agro-Industrial Trade Fair (August 8-23, SM City Davao), Kulturang Pilipinhon (August 9, Rizal Park), Tingog Kadayawan (August 9, Rizal Park), Lumadnong Kagikan (August 10-16, Rizal Park), Hiyas sa Kadayawan (August 11, CAP Auditorium), Sayaw Mindanao: Isang Pagpupugay (August 15-17, CAP Auditorium and NCCC Mall), Davao River Festival (August 16, Davao Riverfront), Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan (August 18, major thoroughfares) and Floral Float Parade (August 19, major thoroughfares).
