During the past eight years, the Mindanao Indigenous Dance Festival has carved distinct impacts and imprints on the culture and dance area not only in Mindanao but as well as in the entire country.

Every year, MIDF has attracted dance masters from around the country to help shape the direction and raise the levels of artistic standards through their active engagement and critique in the festival. It was also consistently participated by various groups from all over Mindanao region.

“Hudyakaan sa Kadayawan”, continuing the tradition of the annual “Kaan Dawet” - a festival of food and music held during the Kadayawan sa Dabaw celebration, is now open for interested restaurant owners, caterers and food sellers for a two-week feast at the NCCC Mall Car Park Area in Ma-a.

Booths and stalls measuring 4 feet x 5 feet are now available for concessionaires for only PhP 8,000.00. Reservatios shall be on a “first come, first serve” basis. Booths will be provided with an electrical connection with one socket.

 
'Hiyas sa Kadayawan' slated on Saturday PDF Print E-mail

The search for this year’s Hiyas sa Kadayawan, the Festival Gem who will symbolize the celebration of harvest, will come to an end on 11 August 2007 at the CAP Auditorium.

The coronation night will feature music and dance in a pageantry integrating the tribal lores and folk stories of the eight tribes of Davao, namely Ata, Obo-Manuvu, Tagabawa, Sama, tausug, Maranao, Maguindanao and K’lagan.

This year’s candidates of the Hiyas sa Kadayawan are Ryalim A. Boton (19 year old student representing the Tagabawa tribe), MarryJoy Wayan (22 year old student representing the Obu-Manuvu tribe), Samra B. Num (21 year old teacher representing the K’lagan tribe), Hamis D. Sherjalyn (18 year old student representing the Tausug tribe), Hadzmina K. Saraka (22 year old employee representing Sama tribe), Jockra M. Ebus (19 year old nursing student representing the Maguindanao tribe), Nihaya B. Polao (18 year old nursing student representing the Maranaw tribe), and Madilyn Dalag (26 year old social work graduate, representing the Ata tribe).
